The Payroll Specialist supervises payroll employees, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. This position will operate as the subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues while continuously looking for improvements in operational processes and designs and implements those initiatives. The Supervisor will optimize the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems. This will include, but not limited to the following responsibilities:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide payroll leadership and direction to the payroll staff processing US and Canada payroll
• Review time-entry validation and other payroll reports to verify accuracy of time-entry and resulting pay implications; follow-up to ensure accurate and complete payroll entries
• Develop and maintain spreadsheets; utilize report-writing tools to develop ad hoc reports to summarize or provide payroll information
• Reconcile payroll-related activity accounts and interact with accounting to clear reconciling items; balance current, month-to-date and year-to-date payroll registers for the Company
• Monitor workload and evaluate performance of direct reports
• Participate in interview process for new hires into Payroll roles
• Cover for team members in back-up role for vacation and/or high-volume work efforts
• May explain payroll and time entry policies and procedures; research and respond to inquiries from management, employees and third parties
• Standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates
• Work with HRIS to formulate and test necessary changes to HRIS system
• Liaison between Payroll Group and Human Resources Group
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager

5+ years of payroll experience

• Experience resolving various payroll issues

• Knowledge of general payroll practices, IRS, State and local regulations

• Knowledge of multi state pay related practices

• Experience working with ADP

• Microsoft Office 365 skills - Excel skills necessary

• Demonstrated ability to identify problems and propose paths to solution

• Analytical with a creative approach to problem solving

• High level of integrity, professionalism and discretion

• Must be a team player and work on multiple projects simultaneously

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• Ability and desire to learn new skills

• Meticulous organizational skills and extremely detail-oriented

• Dexterity and the ability to change speed and react quickly to a fast paces environment

• Must exhibit a sense of urgency in all work and assignments

• Customer-centric attitude is essential to help resolve pay check issues, questions, or concerns

 

Desired Skills:

• Certified Payroll Professional Designation preferred;

• American Payroll Association Member. Local chapter member a plus

• Experience in a fast-moving/high-growth technology environment

• Intermediate report writing skills
