Description
Responsibilities
- Champion strategic initiatives that drive successful Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) deployments, ensuring customer projects stay aligned with business outcomes while proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
- Lead AVD-focused architectural design sessions, defining host pool strategies, image management approaches, identity integration, and security baselines using Microsoft best practices, including the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Well-Architected Framework (WAF).
- Architect and implement secure, scalable, and resilient AVD environments—covering networking, identity, FSLogix profiles, image lifecycle, monitoring, and operational governance.
- Drive technical excellence across AVD and adjacent Azure workloads (IaaS, identity, networking, storage), ensuring virtual desktop environments meet performance, security, and reliability requirements for enterprise-scale deployments.
- Own end-to-end technical governance for strategic AVD accounts, ensuring alignment with customer success plans and maximizing the value of their Azure and AVD investments.
- Accelerate AVD adoption and Azure consumption by resolving technical blockers, optimizing session host performance, and providing delivery oversight for key virtualization and desktop modernization engagements.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, partners, and customer stakeholders to design impactful AVD delivery proposals and support execution with clarity and confidence.
- Inspire customer innovation by helping them modernize legacy VDI platforms, adopt cloud-based desktop virtualization, and integrate AVD with AI-driven or automation-enhanced workflows.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset by continuously developing AVD, Azure, and virtualization expertise while contributing to a culture of learning and technical excellence.
Technical Experience
- Deep experience with hybrid infrastructures, virtualization architectures, and cloud-based desktop delivery models.
- 10+ years in customer-facing technical roles involving systems architecture, virtualization, operations, IT consulting, or enterprise cloud support.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, virtualization strategy, and modern desktop transformation.
- Proven success planning, deploying, operating, and optimizing enterprise VDI or AVD environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft enterprise software and Azure ecosystem components relevant to AVD (Azure AD, networking, storage, monitoring, security).
Virtualization & Cloud Expertise
- Extensive hands-on experience with Hyper-V 2016+ and SCVMM 2016+, supporting AVD hybrid and image management scenarios.
- Strong experience with Azure Stack HCI 22H2+ and Azure Arc for hybrid AVD deployments and Arc-enabled management.
- Proficiency in virtualization migrations (e.g., VMware to Hyper-V or AVD), including assessment, planning, and cutover strategies.
Windows & Identity Skills
- Deep knowledge of Windows Server 2012 R2–2025, including roles relevant to AVD such as Active Directory, DNS, and file services.
- Experience with Failover Clustering and Storage Spaces Direct for on-premises or hybrid AVD infrastructure.
- Strong Active Directory and Azure AD configuration skills, including conditional access, identity security, and group policy management for AVD session hosts.
Scripting & Automation
- Proficiency in PowerShell 5.x and Core 7.x for automating AVD deployments, image creation, scaling plans, and operational tasks.
- Experience with ARM/Bicep, Azure Automation, or GitHub Actions is a plus for AVD CI/CD pipelines.
Optional but Valuable Skills
- Familiarity with Azure IaaS, Azure Backup, and Azure Site Recovery in the context of AVD workloads.
- Experience with enterprise backup tools (Veeam, Commvault, Zerto) for hybrid or supporting infrastructure.
- Exposure to SCOM, SCDPM, SCCM/MECM, and SQL Server on VMs—especially where they intersect with AVD image management or monitoring.
- Basic networking and storage solution skills, including Azure Virtual Network design, ExpressRoute, and storage performance tuning for FSLogix.
